Carbohydrates are an essential part of your diet, it is your body’s primary source of energy. By cutting back or eliminating it entirely causes your body to burn fat for fuel which may seem like a great thing – AT FIRST. But long-term many people end up gaining all the weight back again or more. When you eliminate or reduce a lot of carbs from your diet it causes a process in your body called ketosis to kick in. It’s extremely inefficient on the body leading to fatigue and eventually to even worse symptoms like bad breath or even kidney failure. So when we talk about carbs cut out the “bad” carbs like refined sugar, white rice and bread instead. Go for fruits, vegetables and whole grains for your weight loss efforts. Why eat whole grains? They are a great source of fiber and nutrients like B vitamins, phytochemicals and healthy fats. For example white rice has been stripped of all this, a better option is brown rice which has all the nutrients, healthy fats and phytochemicals still intact.
